Risk management is the central component of a holistic GRC strategy. Risks occur in all business areas and can relate to projects, overarching corporate goals and compliance with legal guidelines or quality standards.
Opportunities are always analyzed at the same time during the structured risk assessing risk assessment. This can be done directly or indirectly through savings when error-prone or inefficient processes are optimized. The results of risk assessments should be used in the PDCA cycle.
Once a risk has been created, it is reviewed by a risk manager and the potential financial impact and probability of occurrence are assessed. This is done within a fixed period of time so that no threats remain untreated. Responsibility is always borne by individuals and not groups. In this way, every risk is taken seriously.
Pending risk assessments or decisions on the risk strategy or measures derived from it should be regularly submitted to those responsible. Documents relevant to compliance must be given a resubmission date to ensure that they are up to date and relevant.
Risk management only becomes an effective instrument when “real” actions are initiated from the knowledge gained. Risks should not only be recognized in potentially damaging actual states, but active control (achievement of the target state) must also take place via controllable measures.
The basic data within the OMNITRACKER platform can be accessed in all GRC applications. This means that risks can be linked directly in audits or, for example, company documents can be attached. All personal and company master data as well as the role and authorization concept used are stored in the central system.

ISO 27001 examines the information security management system (ISMS) used—with a particular focus on the protection goals of confidentiality, availability and integrity of information as well as risk assessments. An ISMS is mandatory for some industries or types of company.
