BPMN in practice online event MIWG

Eleven software vendors—one international standard for process modeling

At the international remote event of the Model Interchange Working Group (MIWG) on June 22, 2020, OMNINET and other innovative software companies will demonstrate the compatibility of the international standard for process modeling BPMN 2.0 in practice.

In the second phase of the event, the “drawn”, i.e. modeled, digital diagrams are first saved in a structured way, exported, and then imported into BPMN tools of other vendors for further processing.

The Model Interchange Working Group is an expert in BPMN (Business Process Modeling and Notation™) and promotes international communication between BPMN tool vendors.

Objective of the online event

Participants are to understand why the use of an international standard in business process modelling is so essential. For example, this can be the case when different software systems are used in parallel, or in all types of cross-company or cross-departmental cooperation, e.g. in technology partnerships. The replacing of an organization’s software system—especially in the field of business processes—leads to imports of processes. The use of a uniform standard is of immense importance to ensure that all information is retained and compatibility is guaranteed during the imports and exports of processes.

At the same time, the event offers the opportunity to gain insights into the user interfaces of various BPMN modeling tools and to learn about the product specifics of the individual software providers. After the workflow diagrams have been designed with BPMN, cross-tool exports and imports of the diagrams take place. Afterwards, the participants have the opportunity to ask the BPMN experts questions and discuss the BPMN standard.

The role of BPMN in the Business Process Ecosystem OMNITRACKER

A single database and various tools in one system (e.g. ITSM, project management or risk management): The Business Process Ecosystem OMNITRACKER focuses on flexibility and adaptability in all its components. This is achieved by designing all individual elements and interfaces in such a way that they can be adapted at any time and their range of functions can be extended. International standards play an important role in this complex system of applications, interfaces and editors. BPMN is one of the “modeling languages” for process-based data flows in this system. Therefore, BPMN is the technical basis for the digitization of workflows. In addition, the standardized, digital modeling of business processes is the basis for further automation.
